Overview
In September nature slowly reclaims its sea and its coastline: the coves become less crowded and the climate is perfect to enjoy both day and night. Although the days begin to shorten, the atmosphere is so relaxed that time seems to slow down. In the countryside around the coast, the yellow fields of late summer blend with the fragrant Mediterranean maquis, while the first signs of the grape harvest can be felt in one of the regions with the richest winemaking traditions.
Weather
During this period the average temperature over the last decade has been around 26°C during the day and 19°C at night. The sea retains the heat accumulated during the summer and maintains an average temperature of around 23–24°C. Winds blow mainly from the NW and W, with an average intensity between 8 and 12 knots. Rainfall increases slightly compared to August, with an average of 3–4 rainy days during the month.
Events
On the island of San Pietro, the countryside comes alive again and the squares and narrow streets regain the peaceful atmosphere typical of the end of the season. In Calasetta, in the second half of the month, the Fisherman’s Festival takes place with grilled fish dinners under the moonlight. In several towns of the Sulcis area, local wineries open their doors to celebrate one of the region’s most famous wines: Carignano.
