Overview
In August all of Sardinia comes alive and the most famous coves become the perfect setting for summer holidays. However, in Southern Sardinia there are still stretches of coastline that remain relatively uncrowded, where the only sound is the song of cicadas immersed in the Mediterranean summer atmosphere. The daytime heat is often softened by light mistral winds and thermal breezes that cool the nights. The sea temperature, at its seasonal peak, allows long swims and snorkeling with light equipment.
Weather
Over the last ten years, the average daytime temperature in Southern Sardinia in August has been around 30°C, with warm seas perfect for long swims. Winds blow mainly from NW, with an average intensity between 10 and 14 knots, ensuring pleasant and safe sailing conditions. Rainfall is very rare and sunny days are predominant. These weather conditions make August one of the most stable months for a week of sailing.
Events
During this period, every town in Southern Sardinia is lively with patron saint celebrations, village festivals and food and wine events. In Porto Pino, between August 9th and 10th, the fishermen’s festival takes place with the traditional sea procession, while in nearby Sant’Anna Arresi the famous Jazz Festival is held at the end of the month.
